Wheeee!!! Happy Birthday to Meeee!!!
Yup, I turned 35 today. I celebrated by taking the day off from work.
I went to get my blood drawn for some tests. I had to wait over an hour with the crankiest people ever before they called my name. One of the people was a full-on cowboy who complained about all the "rules and regulations" in Las Vegas and how he couldn't wait to get back to where he could do some hunting and fishing. He also may have mentioned a desire to shoot the man who killed his son. Which is sad and disturbing and not something that I feel should be discussed with strangers in a pathology lab waiting room. Another woman complained about having to wait 3 1/2 hours and then found out that she wasn't ever going to get called because she didn't put her name on the list. Ha. Sorry...that's not funny.
After the bleeding was done I headed to a funeral home to do some business regarding some money that is owed the family and they were actually having a funeral which let out right as we walked in the door. Then we find out that the lady who was supposed to have handled the business several weeks ago had been in a car accident and broke both her legs and no one had actually done anything for us since then. The whole visit was uncomfortable to say the least.
After leaving the funeral home I saw a guy walking down the street with his unicycle.
I went to lunch at Marie Callendars and watched the guy next to me eat salads. Which would be healthy except that he poured like a whole bottle of ranch on each one. Well, the first one he dipped pieces into a bowl of ranch. The second one he just drenched. He loved him some ranch. If his plane ever crashes on a crazy island he's totally going to be the dude hiding out in the jungle with an unrefrigerated tub of the stuff.
After lunch I went to the best bakery and bought the best cake ever. (Bavarian cream in the middle, buttercream on top. Delicious.)
Next was a used bookstore that didn't have a bathroom. I, of course, immediately had to use the bathroom since they didn't have one. (What's up with used bookstores not letting people use their bathrooms around here? What kind of lowlifes do they imagine are going to be shopping in a used bookstore anyway?) I headed over to Der Wienerschnitzel praying they didn't have their bathroom all locked up like Fort Knox. They didn't. Unfortunately, this Der Wiernerschnitzel had a very bad odor and their whole kitchen area on display. Let's just say, I won't be getting any chili cheese dogs from them any time soon.
Another used bookstore followed where the owner didn't even greet me even though I've been in there before and I was the only customer and this really loud ringer sounded when I walked in and she was sitting right next to the door. C'mon....not even a grunt of a hello? A nod of the head? I get nothing?
Off to the clothing store where I tried on a bunch of crap and then bought three identical t shirts except they're different colors. It was a comfy shirt.
The casino came next because it was my special day and I was sure that the gambling gods would recognize this with a big win. Unfortunately the gambling gods seem to have some sort of grievance with me because I just lost all my money. The Elvis machine was particularly brutal. Stupid Elvis.
Then I went to dinner and accidentally dragged my shirt sleeve through some gravy while the waiter watched. Later, when he was clearing the table, he made a point of saying he was taking the knife so I wouldn't cut myself. So, I don't think I made a good impression.
Then I came home and watched a Survivor where the contestant I have in the office fantasy Survivor game was inexplicably almost kicked off. What the heck did she ever do to anyone? Stupid Survivors made me lose points every time they wrote her name down.
Anyway, Happy Birthday to Me!!
If I ever get my motivation mojo going this might turn into one of those weight loss blogs or a "how I paid off my debt" blog or an "I travelled the world, look at my pictures" blog. Until then, it's just me rambling.

I've really only had 4 jobs?...
This is sort of fun and every other blog I read is doing it so I decided to play.
Four Jobs I’ve Had
1) My first job was working at a photography studio. It was actually more of a photography warehouse. They did all the school photos and student ids and whatnot for a ton of West Coast schools. The boss was fond of screaming and once threw a cup of coffee at someone for loading the laminating machine wrong.
2) Job #2 was at a family owned flower nursery. The family was super-friendly, the nursery was beautiful & most of the men who worked there were totally good-looking. I used to make displays of the flowers and then people would come buy them all up and I’d get mad because I thought they were pretty. That was a fun job but was seasonal and didn’t pay very well.
3) Job #3 was data entry at a collection agency. Clients would send in the list of accounts that needed collecting and I would enter them in the system so the agents could call and hassle people for money. The owners were actually pretty nice about how people could be hassled but it was still a collection agency so everyone hated us. One guy paid us all in change. Another told the receptionist that it was her fault that his mother-in-law killed herself. We had two bomb threats. On the up side, it was funny to read the names of the porn movies that people never returned to a video store client and I had a crush on one of my bosses.
4) Job #4 is the job that I have now. I’ve been here for 12 ½ years. It’s a good job. I don’t see any reason to look for job #5 at the moment.
Four Movies I Can Watch Over and Over
1) Defending Your Life
2) Gidget
3) Clueless
4) Valley Girl
Those are by far not the only movies that I can watch over and over. They’re just the first four that I thought of.
Four Places I Have Lived
I’ve only lived in three cities so I’m doing four houses that I’ve lived in.
1) Old Arkansas farmhouse. I was only there until I turned 7. It had a big porch, an old barn, a giant yard with a weeping willow tree, a rose garden, a vegetable garden, a rock garden, a wild violet patch and a hollow (but we called it a holler) with a natural spring at the bottom. Plus, my bedroom was going to have a skylight. I won’t go into why we left but I’m still whining about the fact that I didn’t get to grow up in that house. To make matters worse, the guy who moved in after us just trashed the whole place. Sob.
2) Rimrock Way. My brother made me a roller rink in the garage using all the newest Radio Shack lighting gear. Someone started to build a community pool years before we moved there but ran out of money or something so it was just a big hole in the ground filled with tall weeds and surrounded by a fence. It was the type of place that they would find a bunch of bodies in if my life was an episode of “Criminal Minds”. I tried to climb our yard’s redwood fence in my bare feet and got splinters. All the neighborhood kids voted “Dukes of Hazzard” the best show on tv.
3) Shelter Island Apartments. This is where we lived when we first moved to Las Vegas. I thought it was wonderful because it was an apartment in a big city and there was a mall within walking distance. After a couple of weeks somebody was killed across the street and I found out that what was commonly known as “Crack Alley” was a block away. Nice. We moved to…
4) Southern Cove Apartments. I had my own bathroom! And a walk in closet! And the mall was still right down the street. So exciting. The people upstairs had huge fights. After a particularly loud one they left some homemade jam by our door. Once I threw birdseed out on the lawn and a bunch of flowers started to grow.
Four TV Shows I Love
1) Grey’s Anatomy
2) Criminal Minds
3) House
4) Lost
And Survivor, Amazing Race, CSI, Deadwood, Gilmore Girls, American Idol, Search for a Supermodel, America's Next Top Model, Numbers, Bones...the list is endless. I watch a lot of tv.
Four Places I’ve Vacationed
1) Oahu. We won the trip. The hotel upgraded us. The airplane food was delicious.
2) Disney World. It rained most of the time. I’m going back my next vacation.
3) San Francisco. Like a bajillion times. I still love it, though.
4) San Diego. I think I've said enough already.
Four of My Favorite Dishes
1) Chips and Queso (Like at Cozymel’s.)
2) Really good banana pudding. (Like at Cozymel’s.)
3) Chocolate chip cookies right out of the oven.
4) Bacon cheeseburger with onions, mayo & ketchup.
Four Sites I Visit Daily
1) Best of Clay
2) Snopes
3) My Yahoo
4) Netflix
Four Places I’d Rather Be Right Now
1. That Arkansas farmhouse from Four Places I’ve Lived.
2. Hanging out with a very chatty Clay Aiken.
3. A secluded house by a river. With a very chatty Clay Aiken.
4. I’d settle for home at the moment.

It's too much...

Why did I start this?...
Qwyzzle is probably not going to be good for my sanity. Level 28 already has me teetering on the brink.
ETA:
Level 34 shoved me right over the edge. I hate Qwyzzle and chess and horses and letters.
I'm going to go watch "Grey's Anatomy." Maybe an hour of Patrick Dempsey can return my sanity.

Agatha's going to take it all...
Guess what Sunday is. That’s right! The Puppy Bowl!!
I got so sucked into this last year. I was just flipping by and was all “what the heck?” and hours later I was still staring at the silly little puppies. All the players look strong this year. It should be a good game.
Oscar nominations were this morning. I love the Oscars. I can’t really offer any intelligent opinions about the nominations because I’ve only seen “Crash” and “Cinderella Man” so far. I find Best Supporting Actor nominee Jake Gyllenhaal quite attractive, though. I’m not saying that I think he should win because of that. I'm just saying.

Ouch...
I just slammed my thumb in my desk drawer. It hurt so much that I thought I was going to throw up. About a month ago I slammed my index finger in my desk drawer. That one still hurts. I may have broken some teeny tiny bone or something. Maybe I need to pad my desk drawers.
I think I finally got rid of my spyware problem. Marti's Ad-Aware suggestion didn't fix the Vundo thing but it did find some other junk that had snuck through. VirtumundoBeGone is what finally seems to have done the trick. ( Here's a direct download if you ever have this problem.) I haven't had a problem in a couple of days at least, which is longer than I've gone for weeks without seeing those stupid popups and my computer freezing up. Stupid spyware.
I liked these guys! Reality show contestants sure seem to play fast and loose with the law a lot.
I'm off to Hash House a Go Go tonight for my mom's 60th birthday. All the servings there are supposed to be huge. I hope it's good because I'm hungry.

Ah Ah Ah ooo Oh oo Ohhhh...
American Idol is back!! They say it's going to be the best season ever! Yay!!!
I thought it was pretty funny tonight. I laughed a lot. Maybe I'm just giddy. I did giggle when Ryan brought out his first "after the break". I guess I'm just stupid for the Idol.
I thought the "I Shot the Sheriff" guy was the funniest. He just kept singing the same two lines over and over and over and over. How are the criminals back home supposed to take him seriously now? And what's up with the dude that got the second chance and sang about Constance serving your needs winter, spring and fall. Creepy.

I do know how to spell my own name...
Why do my co-workers argue with me over details in my life? Why would they possibly think that they know my life better than me?
If I tell this person that so-and-so’s wife is awful, she always argues that she must not be or he wouldn’t be married to her. A) What does being married to her have to do with anything? Maybe he’s just an idiot. B) I know her. You don’t. So you don’t get to make a judgment.
I mentioned something to someone about my nephew and they said that I didn’t have a nephew. Wouldn’t I know if I have a nephew? To be fair, people have told me that I don’t have a brother so I guess I can see where they’d argue the nephew point.
I told this person what age my mom was when she became a grandmother and they actually used the calculator to try and prove me wrong.
One person asked me how to spell my last name and when I told her she told me that was wrong. She said that I had told her a different way before. Now, if I were her, I might have thought that I wrote it down wrong before but apparently her theory was just that I can’t spell my own name properly on a consistent basis.
These are different people, mind you. It’s like a whole office of people who think I have no knowledge of my own life.
It's annoying. That's all I'm trying to say.

I'm getting angry...
I can't get rid of this stupid winfixer/winantivirus/TrojanVundo spyware crap!! I've used SpySweeper, Norton, TrendMicro Housecalls & Fix Vundo. They all say they got rid of it and then there the stupid popups are again. I'm running Panda Activescan now but I don't have high hopes.
Stupid spyware. What am I paying Norton and SpySweeper for if they're just going to tell me they fixed something when they didn't. Stupid Norton and SpySweeper. Stupid computer. I swear life was easier before I got one.

I'll admit it...I'm not ashamed...
I really didn't like "March of the Penguins". I thought it was slow and boring and the leopard seal scared me and I just wanted them to have the babies and get on with it already.
I did, however, love the "Happy Feet" trailer at the beginning of the DVD. They have it here. Choose the very last one labeled "little-elijah.2ya.com". The regular trailer is pretty cute, too.
Just when the holidays finally ended and I had enough time to get all caught up at work I got a horrible cold. I haven't felt like going to work all week, much less actually working double time to get things done. And, of course, I can't stay home because then I'd just get more behind. So I drag myself in and sit there trying not to cough and sneeze and blow my nose and be sickly too much. It's been a delight.
Just one more day and I can veg out in front of the tv and watch "Danielle Steel's Fine Things" that I dvr'd specifically for that purpose. I've seen it like six times. I have a little crush on D.W. Moffett. If Lifetime Movie Network would just play "Danielle Steel's Star" with Jennie Garth I could break out my video of "Danielle Steel's Message from Nam" and make a real day of it.

Guess what my New Years Resolution is...
That's right. Lose weight. That's one of them anyway. I tend to make a lot of resolutions. Anyway, sparkpeople.com just so happened to be giving away free memberships just when everyone started making New Year's Resolutions to lose weight so I joined up. It's pretty neat with the nutrition tracker and sparkpoints and all. It sort of makes the whole losing weight thing kind of seem like a game.
I got sucked into four marathons on tv this past weekend. Four! "The Twilight Zone", "I Love...", "Pasadena" and "The Biggest Loser". A giant waste of time? Perhaps. Enjoyable? Definately.
Those before and after pictures for "The Biggest Loser" are pretty impressive.
Check it out! VH1 is doing an "I Love...Toys". Cool!

Christmas cactus and traffic jams...
I went to the Ethel M's Chocolate factory cactus garden tonight. It's pretty cool all year long but they have it lit up with Christmas lights during the holidays. I took a bunch of pictures but they mostly turned out like this:

Here's a few I took that are a bit steadier. It'll give an idea of what it's like at least.

Then we drove through the "Gift of Lights" in Sunset Park. I've never actually done that on Christmas Eve before. There are a lot of people there on Christmas Eve. Like hour-long traffic jam proportions. It was fun though. I was going to take pictures of that but my batteries died. They probably would have all looked like that acid-trip-Christmas picture up above anyway.
Merry Christmas!! Happy Hanukkah!! Merry Chrismukah!!

Merrier Christmas to me...
My holiday spirit is on the rise again.
Trans-Siberian Orchestra was awesome. It did have a craaazzzy light show that blinded me, gave me a headache and made me sort of dizzy, though. It was cool to look at. I forget between concerts how impressive the singers are in that show. I just love it. It makes me so happy. It makes me so happy that I won't mention how annoying it is when a show starts half an hour late because half the crowd is milling around the lobby and then after the show has started people still come filing in for another half an hour disrupting everyone else's experience.
Yesterday we unexpectedly got our way-bigger-than-last-year Christmas bonuses at work. That's cool because I could really use it to buy some presents this weekend. And pay off some presents that I've already bought.
I brought home a giant stack of work to do today so I can maybe get a little caught up. Tomorrow is all about Christmas on the Strip, though. Yay! The Bellagio Conservatory of Flowers has their holiday display up so I'm going to that. Then it's just shopping, shopping, shopping at all the Strip malls. There's like five so that should keep me busy for the day.
This is funny. And not that far-fetched.

Merry Christmas to me...
Trans-Siberian Orchestra tonight! Yay!
On a less yay note, I don't see any possible way that I'm going to get everything done at work and at home that I need to get done before January 1st. I always enter the holidays wanting to enjoy them but I end up just getting completely overwhelmed with everything. Plus, we get all these holidays off from work so all the stuff that I'm overwhelmed with actually has to be done in less days then I would normally have.
But, still...Trans-Siberian Orchestra tonight!!! Yippee!!!

It's like the Paolos moved in...
Wow, the people who live upstairs from me are really screaming today. They were going at it this morning but then they left for the day. They just came back and they started up again right away. They scream all the time but this time seems especially bad.
It's weird because they're pretty nice when you see them at the cars or coming in or something. They do sort of keep their kids under lock and key though. There are always kids running around outside but I never see theirs. Sometimes the little girl takes the trash across the street to the dumpster and the mom stands on the patio and watches the whole time and yells at her to hurry up and get back. It's kind of bizarre really. I mean, I think parents should watch after their kids way more than they do nowadays but it is strange not to let them out to play at all. It's a pretty safe gated community. It's not like I live in the ghetto or anything.
I hope the parents are screaming at each other and not the kids. Not that screaming at each other in front of the kids is ideal but it's a little bit better.
Oh well, I guess it's none of my business really. I'm sure if I did a survey of the neighbors they'd have a lot of weird stories about me, too.
